Why Choose Antlara Dental Clinic
How we work
A dentist examines you in person before your plan is final. If less treatment could meet your needs, we tell you.
Before deciding, you have the right to information about the proposed treatment, other options with their benefits and risks, possible complications and the consequences of refusing treatment1. Ask your dentist to explain what each option would mean for you, including whether no treatment is an option.
The sections below explain what to ask about your plan, the treating dentist and your records.
- A dentist examines you in person before your plan is final.
- If less treatment could meet your needs, we tell you.
- Ask about the options, their risks and alternatives, including no treatment.
- For crowns and veneers, you see the planned shape before they are finished and can ask for changes.
- Ask who will treat you and request copies of your records.
Understand the options before deciding
Turkey's patient rights regulation calls for information in plain language, given orally by the professional who will carry out the procedure1. Ask questions until you understand what is proposed and why.
FDI World Dental Federation's professional ethics guidance calls for explaining the benefits and risks of treatment or no treatment, and allowing dialogue and reflection time for complex or elective procedures2. This is professional guidance, rather than a statement of Turkish law.
Ask your dentist:
- What problem are we trying to address?
- Could less treatment meet my needs?
- What would happen if I had no treatment?
- What are the alternatives and the risks of each?
- What would make the plan change?
Ask for the proposed plan and the answers in writing. If you need time to think, say so. Private dental facilities must obtain a consent form for every intervention3; read it before you sign and ask for your copy.
You can say no, or ask to stop, at any stage. The patient rights regulation allows refusal or stopping treatment except where treatment is legally compulsory; the consequences must be explained and recorded.1
See the planned shape of crowns and veneers
For crowns and veneers, you see the planned shape before they are finished and can ask for changes.
Ask how the planned shape will be shown to you. Describe what you would like to change, and ask your dentist to explain whether each change is possible for your teeth. Ask what happens if you do not agree with the proposed shape.
For more information before that discussion, read about zirconia crowns and laminate veneers.
Know who will treat you
You can see the list of our dentists. For your own treatment, ask who will examine you and who will carry out each part of the plan.
Under Turkey's patient rights regulation, you can request the identities, roles and titles of the doctors and staff involved in your care, and a second opinion from another doctor1.
Ask for the treating dentist's name and role in writing. If a specialist title is used, ask which recognised specialty it refers to and how to check it.
What to check about any clinic
Use these checks when considering any private dental clinic in Turkey:
- Dentist registration. Dentists practising privately must register with the relevant provincial or regional dental chamber4. Ask which chamber the treating dentist is registered with and how to confirm this.
- Professional titles. The speciality-training regulation states that a specialist title cannot be used without a specialist certificate5. Ask what supports any specialist title used.
- Patient rights unit. Polyclinics, centres and hospitals must have a patient rights unit3. Ask whether the facility has one and how to contact it.
- Facility permissions. Private dental facilities must have a licence and an operating permit to provide care3. Ask to see the relevant documents and request the details in writing.
- The dentist's working certificate. The facility regulation requires a copy approved by the provincial health directorate to be displayed where patients can easily see it in the treatment room3.
For questions to ask about outcomes and responsibility, see Results and trust.
Keep your records and know what comes next
You have the right to examine your file and records and obtain a copy1. Ask for copies of your treatment records and any X-rays, along with the plan and any written changes to it.
Before agreeing, ask who to contact with questions, how to request your records and what follow-up is proposed. Ask for these details in writing.
Read What to expect for questions to prepare before an examination and treatment discussion.
